Green Parents' List Announces Launch of Green Parents' List Check Mark™

OTTAWA, CANADA - 02 June 2009 - Green Parents' List (www.greenparentslist.com) has launched a List and Check Mark for children's products verified for compliance with the restricted substances requirements of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). Since late 2006, consumer confidence in toy manufacturers has been eroded by the high level of product recalls for lead (Pb), phthalates and other substances. Green Parents' List offers independent verification of compliance to CPSIA restricted substance requirements through the review of test reports and manufacturer declarations of conformity. Products that pass this process can be easily identified by use of the Green Parents' List Check Mark™. Consumers also gain increased access to verified products through the Green Parents' List on the website.

The U.S. CPSIA law, enacted in August 2008, specifies restricted substances requirements for children's products sold in the United Sates. Manufacturers of children's products who have properly complied with these requirements have invested time and resources, but have no simple way to demonstrate their compliance to consumers. Additionally, conscientious parents who seek toys that are compliant have no easy way of identifying appropriate candidates.

What Green Parents' List offers is a solution to these problems.

Green Parents' List works with companies to provide consumers with access to a list of verified products. Each product appearing on the Green Parents' List web site has been verified for CPSIA restricted substance compliance by parents who have scientific backgrounds. By providing this independent verification, Green Parents' List offers concerned parents and responsible sellers of children's products the opportunity to connect.

The Green Parents' List Check Mark™ is granted only to products that, once submitted for review, demonstrate compliance to CPSIA restricted substance limits through:

  • Accredited third-party lab test reports
  • Manufacturer declarations of conformity (DoC) and general certificates of conformity (GCC).

The Green Parents' List Check Mark™ may be displayed on the product itself, the product packaging, as well as within the promotion of the product, and provides consumers with a quickly identifiable reference that the manufacturer of this product has performed their due diligence. If a company is compliant with the law, there is no reason to delay applying for the Green Parents' List Check Mark™.
