About the Check Mark - Healthy Home
Checked by parents for parents and, most importantly, for children.
The Green Parents' List Check Mark for Healthy Home applies to home interior materials that are designed for or expected to come into contact with children 12 years of age or younger. This definition encompasses a very wide range of products including carpets, paints, finishes, stains, flooring, and adhesives to name just a few home products.
The Green Parents' List Check Mark is awarded to those home products that have been checked against the volatile organic compound (VOC) restrictions of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) initiative. LEED mandates strict VOC limits on a wide variety of products and encompasses a broad range of US and Canadian standards.
How do we know that a product meets the specific material restriction requirements? At Green Parents' List, product test reports are checked by parents with the scientific education to interpret the results. Our review process verifies:
- Mandatory third-party testing has been performed by an accredited laboratory for volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
- Test reports meet the strict LEED requirements for the specific product type
- Declaration of compliance by the manufacturer to the LEED VOC requirements for the specific product
At Green Parents' List, we take our job very seriously so that you, the consumer, can easily identify products that come from manufacturers who care.
